Anywhoo I’m back to Ubuntu.
Gnome with Dust Sand theme. Still need to install vmware server 2 on the laptop, so I can study Windows servers + networking and AD and WSUS and Exchange and all the other buggy stuff. Vmware server 2 is good in the sense that it actually shares the NAT between virtual machines, unlike VirtualBox. Otherwise I’d use that. Vmware server 2 is fast run through a local net too, no mentionable lag as I first suspected there would be. Anyhow I’m just rambling, I’ll get back to my whiskey on the rocks now.

Adobe Systems has spun out an alpha version of its Flash Player 10 technology for 64-bit Linux software users today, to satisfy the needs of freetards everywhere.

The multinational said it has done so to underscore its “commitment to the Linux community” which is ahead of Windows and Apple Mac OS X in the 64-bit processor support game.

Previously, Firefox fans could only use the 32-bit version when running the Flash 10 plug-in because, at release last month, the software needed 32-bit emulation for it to work on Linux platforms and other operating systems.

I am disapointed; the most needed things, for me anyway, would be to have multimedia support of some kind. My mp3s are a no go, mplayerplug-in doesn’t exist, same with mozilla-plugin-vlc. No quicktime either? What is this?
All of this did work with snapshot 3 earlier, so my guess is that the guys at Rpmfusion are rebuilding their stuff or something. Other than that it feels pretty solid, stable and it is fast. Windows open instantly, there is no lag, haven’t tested 3d yet, other than glxinfo | grep direct gives me a positive answer, but enabling the desktop effects shows nothing but grayed out windows. This is with and Nvidia 7600GT graphics card. I am going back to Ubuntu until this release matures a little bit more, and I will check back later.

Starting from Windows XP SP2 (and on through Vista), Microsoft has crippled down consumer versions of Windows, officially in order to limit the possibilities of insecure Windows machines to act as hosts for Internet attacks executed by worms and trojans. Unfortunately, these changes also made non-server editions of Windows a lot less capable for doing network administrations tasks, such as scanning.

Windows implementation of TCP connection attempt rate limiting limits the number of simultaneous connection attempts to 10 on XP SP2 or 2 to 25, depending on the edition of Vista. The previous limit was over 65,000. You can check if you reach this limit by examining the Event Log after scanning: look for the Event ID 4226, which corresponds to this problem.

For scanning purposes, that means you can have at most this number of scanning threads if you want to get reliable results. The number of scanning threads affects the maximum number of hosts scanned simultaneously and therefore the maximum number of connections made at each moment.

    Klockan. Det att den går för fort beror på att processorn växlar mellan 800MHz och 1600MHz på min laptop, så vi måste berätta för VMware vad max frekvensen är för processorn. Det gör vi i

    Och eftersom max frekvensen är 1600, lade jag till:
    host.cpukHz = 1600000
    host.noTSC = TRUE
    ptsc.noTSC = TRUE

Gentoo för att vara exakt, fast jag kommer nog att köra Windows Xp under VMware så jag har lättare att kolla upp saker, och för att kunna använda Office 2007, eftersom det inte fungerar under Wine.
    Måste komma ihåg att installera Windows Server 2003 (2008?) och öva administrering av domäner / AD.
    Men idag är det söndag, och då gör jag ingenting! Ha!
